SUNY Buffalo State offers the oldest state-sponsored art teacher education program in the nation. Students with strong academic credentials are encouraged to apply and join in Buffalo State's great tradition of arts education.
In 1871, when the Buffalo Normal School first opened its doors, the school’s sole purpose was to train teachers to serve the city’s fast-growing student population in the public schools. While Buffalo State has vastly expanded its academic program offerings over the years, teacher education remains at the heart of our mission. Simply put, we teach teachers.
Buffalo State has an unmatched record of preparing teachers for a wide range of classroom settings and grade levels. Our students are prepared as leaders and educators through a strong and diverse foundational curriculum as well as through extensive direct student teaching experiences.
