The Western New York Network of English Teachers, a teacher-driven professional social network for secondary English teachers in the Buffalo-Niagara region, will hold its third annual Summer Conference, Reclaiming Education: Teaching Beyond the Common Core. The event features a panel of ELA teachers and administrators from across Western New York discussing student centered teaching practices in the age of the Common Core State Standards.
Panelists will address issues related to the use of technology, personal writing, popular culture, and fiction in the ELA classroom as well as the impact the new standards are having on students and the learning culture of our schools. Following the presentations each panelist will facilitate breakout sessions where attendees will investigate and work to address issues raised by the panelists in more detail.
